For many people, socialism is a wonderful dream - a society of equality, sharing, cooperation and personal fulfilment. But too often it has also seemed impractical, even impossible. This book studies an approach, called Multilevel Democratic Iterative Coordination (MDIC), that asks the hard questions: How do you socialists reckon with the realities of diverse people with well-formed likes and dislikes; vast choices needing to be made; a huge grid of activities that need to be coordinated? MDIC says: We can build, through stages, a society that does the job. We have the technology. And, increasingly, the social capacity. It's not just about wishing for all of this; it is about outlining the actual systems and methods that can progressively achieve it.
